There are two main varieties of bike at the most fundamental level. These are recumbent exercise bikes and upright exercise bikes. The latter category is the most common, and the most practical for most people for home use. They generally take up less space, and cheaper to purchase and are what most people would expect an exercise bike to look like. Recumbent versions on the other hand are more likely to be found in commercial gyms.

So if you are thinking about taking up a form of exercise, consider the benefits of a bike. They are low impact, you can set the resistance level to match your fitness level and they don't take up much space for use at home. Being able to jump on and do even 15 minutes a day will dramatically improve your aerobic fitness.
